Hope Rescue are desperately looking for a home for Benji. They write.....
"Benji is a 3 year old Cavalier , he does have his problems which i will explain later , unfortunately we are unsure wether these are entirely behavioural problems or that he may have some sort of neurolgical problem adding to them. He is on foster in Aberystwyth , West Wales. 6.jpg 17.jpg Benji is a complex little guy , please dont be fooled by his looks , and anyone wanting a typical loving Cavalier would be better off looking elsewhere although he can be just that at times. Unfortunately he is very much Jekyll and Hyde in his ways. Benji can have aggressive moments , which are fairly unpredictable although these have lessened in frequency over time which is why we now believe his problems are more behavioural than medical . He seems to be much better with adults than children , as such we will not rehome Benji to a home where he will have any contact with children . Benji needs a firm experienced owner and definitely someone who is home all day as he cannot be left as he will howl and screech. Benji cannot be crated as this brings out the worst in his behaviour! He can be fine with some dogs , but prefers smaller dogs and has only recently after 9 months in foster started playing with one of the small resident dogs. Although he is fine out and about on walks with the larger resident dogs , he is not in the home and will not be in the same room as them. Benji is not cat or small animal friendly at all . Basic training is good but definitely basic and in the home Benjis recall is good , however outside is a different matter and he will lose his ability to hear and run and run , especially if there are birds in the sky ...he would chase them as far as he could! Benji definitely attachs himself to one person and will be extremely loving to them , but to them alone , although he does sometimes surprise us by cuddling up to other members of the family than myself , this is usually shortlived and if they dare move he will growl and show his disapproval! We wont be looking for a donation for Benji and would even consider a long term foster home for him , but we will be very strict on finding the right place for him. All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded at" http://hope-rescue.proboards.com/ind...ay&thread=6458 and returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk

WhenI did rescue for the Eastern I had a Tri dog brought in his name strangely enough ,was Benji he came in with temperment problems ,his owner was an old boy who encouraged the dog to be nasty, the vet rang me up and asked me if I could help, when the vet nurse arrived to go with me to get him she came with thick gloves and a catching stick (you know the one with the noose on) I refused to let her use it and we ended up doing a rugby tackle on him. I brought him home and decided to keep him, within a few weeks Benji was g oing across the fields with my dogs and for once in his life knew the pleasure of running free, he was no longer the bad tempered lad he once was and he stayed with me for the rest of his life, the vet could not believe the change in him. He died at 11yrs old and I never regretted haveing him. Just shows they can change.

Oh Linda, I took one look at that picture and am now in tears. He reminds me so much of my Charlie who went over the bridge almost a year ago. His problems sound similar to Charlie's too. Though over time Charlie would greet people and go to people he trusted.
He was always that little bit unpredictable though and whilst fine around kids (we only have a few visit and they are good and used to dogs) I would only ever really trust him with Maxx as Maxx could hold his own and would put Charlie in his place and also seemed able to calm him down. We had Charlie scanned and found he had Hydrocephalus with just a pencil line for his brain. I know it's a rescue but I wonder if they'd be able to get in on a breeder's scan rate for him. I'd be willing to donate towards it.

I have fostered several dogs for Hope Rescue. I know Donna where Benji has been fostered. She is fantastic at rehabilitating very damaged dogs.It is so very sad that Benji is so troubled inspite of all his skilled care.
Hope Rescue is a fantastic rescue who have saved so many beautiful dogs. Please spread the word about Benji and say a little prayer that his special home be found soon. Thank you Julie |
